Phoksundo is an alpine fresh water located at an shey phoksundo national park in the dolpa destrict. The altitude of the Phoksundo is about 3611 meters. Phoksundo Lake is one of the deepest lake in Nepal, with a depth of around 145 meters. Shey Phoksundo National Park is home to various wildlife, including the elusive snow leopard, musk deer, and several species of birds. Phoksundo Lake is a popular destination for trekkers. Tsho Rolpa is considered a potential glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) risk due to the accumulation of water and the unstable moraine dam that contains it, which would threaten the lives and livestock of over 6000 villagers living around the Tamakoshi river. Tsho Rolpa offers spectacular views of the surrounding peaks, including Gaurishankar (7,134 meters), Melungtse (7,181 meters), and other towering mountains of the Rolwaling Himal range. The best seasons for trekking to Tsho Rolpa are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is relatively stable, and the skies are clear.
